Brent Hire Sensei

Godan, Aikido

Brent Hire Sensei (b.1971) began training Karate, Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu. In 1986 he was introduced to the art of Aikido by Hiroshi Ikeda Sensei. At age 18, he moved to California to pursue intensive training in Aikido, Shinkendo and Kobudo with Obata Toshishiro Kaiso and in Danzan Ryu Jujitsu with Professor David Bellman. In 1993, Hire Sensei moved to Northern California to co-found a school for Shinkendo, Aikido and Danzan Ryu Jujitsu with attached quarters for uchi deshi (live-in students). In 1999, he moved to Europe to help establish a network of Shinkendo and Aikido dojo in 9 different countries.

Hire Sensei’s love of the arts stems from the experience that training holds the potential to wholly reinvent mind and body. Hire Sensei has also been honored to train I Liq Chuan under GM Sam Chin, Filipino empty hand and weapon arts under Datu Kelly Worden, Aun Kai under Akuzawa Sensei and Internal Power under Dan Harden. These experiences continue to feed the inspiration to explore and teach the core source of the miraculous body and mind power from which the arts spring. Hire Sensei currently holds the rank of Godan and is the Technical Director of Itten Suginami Amsterdam.
